MUNSTER HIGH SCHOOL ANNOUNCEMENTS

CLUBS

GERMAN CLUB:  We will be making soft pretzels after school in the Foods Room today, February 9th.  It will take about 45 minutes. 

 

PING PONG:   We will be having its 1st Annual Double’s Tournament the day after Valentine’s Day on February 15th after school in the commons.  You must be a member of Ping Pong Club to compete.  See Mr. McNabney N152 if you would like to become a member.

 

SPANISH CLUB:   We are now taking orders for Spanish Club t-shirts and sweatshirts.  Please see Sra. Malagon in S164 for an order form if you did not attend last week’s meeting.  The deadline to place your order is February 15th.  Sorry no late orders will be accepted.

 

STATE DEBATE:  The State Debate is set for Friday and Saturday, February 10th and 11th at Indianapolis Ben Davis High School.  Debaters will be leaving at 9:00 am at Door C on Friday, February 10th.  All debaters should pick up waiver information, have parents sign it and return it to your coach.  This should be handled before Thursday,

February 9th.  Debaters remember to check on making up work for Friday.  Check in with coaches for motel information. Remember you need a check for $25 made out to Munster Debate to cover motel costs.

 

SPEECH:  Debaters who want to attend the IU Northwest Debate/Congress this coming Saturday need to see their Debate Coaches this week to enter.  The State Debate is scheduled for February 10th and 11th in Indianapolis.  Debaters must sign up with coaches for the State tournament.

 

THEATRE:  A callout meeting for the spring musical, How to Succeed in Business... will be held this Friday, February 10th at 3:00 pm in the Auditorium.  Auditions will be held on Monday, February 12th at 6:00 pm, and you may sign-up for an audition time slot during the week.  Also, we will teach the audition music and discuss other show details at the Friday callout meeting.

WINTER PLAY - The Munster Theatre Company will present the thoughtful backstage comedy, STAGE DOOR, this coming Thursday, February 9th through Saturday, February 11th at 7:00 pm.  All tickets are $5.  (STM are reminded that you are always invited as our guest).

GUIDANCE

SAT TESTING:   This Friday, February 10th, is the registration deadline for the March 10th SAT test. Students may register from February 11th thru February 24th, but will have to PAY A LATE FEE.  The cost of the test is $49.  Students may register at www.sat.collegeboard.com/register.  Please remember to include the high school code: 152489. SENIORSAs part of Learn More Indiana’s 2012 Cash for College campaign, the state is helping students find financial aid with a free FAFSA Friday webinar on Friday, February 10th.  The FAFSA webinar will be available at FAFSAFriday.org at noon and 6 p.m. (EST).  It will focus on helping seniors students file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).  Students must file the FAFSA by March 10th to qualify for state, federal and institutional grant aid.

 

SENIORS:  College Goal Sunday will be held on February 12th at 40 different sites throughout the state.  These sessions offer students and parents free help from financial aid experts in completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). SENIORS:  If you’re headed to college in the fall—or think you might be—you’ll want to file your FAFSA (aka Free Application for Federal Student Aid) to make sure you’re eligible for financial aid. Indiana’s deadline is March 10th, and most colleges require the FAFSA to qualify for financial aid and some scholarships. You can file the FAFSA online at FAFSA.gov.

 

SENIORS:  Valparaiso University is hosting a Regional Spring College Fair on Wednesday, March 7thfrom 6:30-8:30pm.  As many as 100 private and public universities are planning to attend.  For more information please e-mail: undergrad.admission@valpo.edu.

 

SENIORS:  The 11th Annual Dick Lugar Academy Days will take place on Sunday, March 4th, March 11th and March 18th at three different locations across Indiana.  The Academy Days provide important information about the nomination and admission processes for students who are interested in attending a United States Service Academy.  Current freshman, sophomores and juniors are eligible to attend.  For more information or to register, please visit: www.lugar.senate.gov/services/academy.

 

SOPHOMORES & JUNIORS:  Exciting Summer Opportunity for current sophomore and junior students:  Purdue Research Park in West Lafayette is offering an exciting summer opportunity to students interested in business/ entrepreneurship whom demonstrate an aptitude in the areas of science, math and technology.  This program will be held at Purdue University’s campus from June 24th - 29th.  To qualify for this program students must have a nomination form completed by a teacher along with a 250 word essay.  This is a free program for all students who are selected to participate with the exception of a $75.00 registration fee.  Please see Mrs. Sanchez in Guidance for more information and/or to pick up a nomination form.

FEMALE HIGH SCHOOL JUNIORS:  WISH (Women in STEM High School Aerospace Scholars) Program - interested in exploring the possibilities of a Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) related major or career.  WISH wants female high school juniors from across the country to participate in their pilot project! Your adventure starts with an online community and culminates with a summer experience at NASA Johnson Space Center (JSC) in summer 2012.  Applicants must be a U.S. Citizen, a current high school junior, interested and excited about STEM, committed to a one-year relationship with JSC an able to have access to the Internet at home as well as a cumulative GPA of 3.25 or higher.  The deadline to apply is February 22nd. FYI

HOOPS FOR HOPE:  Student Faculty Basketball Game will be played on Monday, February 13th, 7:00 pm in the Fieldhouse.  Admission is $5.00 or a new or gently used book.

 

TURNABOUT:  The dance will be held on Saturday, February 25th.  Any MHS student who is bringing a date from another school MUST fill out a Date Request form which can be picked up in Student Services.  All students must bring their ids with them when attending the dance.  Ticket prices are $36/couple and $18/single and will be on sale starting February 21st - 24th during all lunch hours.

VOLUNTEERS:  The Service League of NWI raising money for a variety of charities in the area.  The event chairs are looking for 6-8/ student volunteers for an event they are hosting on Friday, March 9th at the Halls of St. George in Schererville.  The event will be held from 7:00-10:00 pm and the job duties will include helping manage the raffle items and assisting with the coat check.  If you are interested please contact Brenda Richter at: blrichter@sbcglobal.net.
