Tuition Students Accepted

 

The School Town of Munster accepts tuition students at the elementary, middle and high school levels.

 

The following is the criteria and procedures for Elementary Students

A.   Incoming Kindergarten students must score at the sixty percent (60%) ranking on the YCAT.  Incoming Grade 1-3 students must have a B average and meet benchmark on MClass 3D Reading and Math or other comparable assessments from their previous school.  Incoming 4-5 students must have a B average and standardized scores in the top quartile and passed their state assessment at their previous school.

 

B.   In the Spring (March or April), parents should write a letter to the Superintendent of Schools requesting that their child be accepted as a transfer tuition student.  If requesting tuition status for more than one child, you may include their names in one letter.

 

C.   Parents need to include a check for $1,000 for each child requesting tuition status.  The check(s) will not be cashed until the student(s) is/are accepted.

 

The following is the criteria and procedures for Middle and High School Students

A.   Incoming Middle School and High School students must have a B average in their core classes at their previous school. Students must also have scored in the top quartile on state and local standardized tests.

 

B.   In the spring (March or April), parents should write a letter to the Superintendent of Schools requesting that their child be accepted as a transfer tuition student.  If requesting tuition status for more than one child, a separate letter for each child is required.

 

C.   The Superintendent refers the letter to the appropriate designee or building principal to investigate and determine whether that student should be accepted.

 

D.   The Designee or Principal informs the Superintendent in writing that the child should be accepted or not accepted.

 

E.   The Superintendent informs the parent in writing (copy to the Designee/Principal) that the School Town of Munster will accept/not accept their child as a transfer tuition student (parents must reapply each year).

 

The following is required in all grades:

A.   The student is not to be enrolled or permitted to attend classes until a full semester’s tuition is paid in advance.

 

B.   The student must have a good disciplinary record at the previous school.

 

C.   No class will be over-crowded by the student’s attendance.

 

Eligibility of Nonresident Students

 

When the Board chooses to accept nonresident students, it shall be on the following conditions:

A.  The student is of suitable character, ability, and training. 

 

B.  The student is in good standing at his/her resident school corporation

 

C.  The student must have a good attendance record at the previous school.
 

D.  No unfunded increase of staff will be required by the student's attendance.

 

E.   The student will accept placement in the grade and school designated.

 

F.   Each semester's tuition assessment shall be paid in advance.

 

G.  Transfer tuition students, Grades K-12, are eligible for the Honors Program if they qualify and space is available.

 

H.  Foreign speaking students will be required to take an English proficiency test prior to consideration for admission.

 

I.    Nonresident tuition students will not be accepted after the fall Average Daily Membership (ADM) date.

 

J.    To be reconsidered for re-enrollment, a student must maintain a B average with standardized scores in the top quartile and continue to pass their state assessment, maintain good attendance and exhibit behavior consistent with the standards set out in the Student Handbook.

 

K.   The transfer shall not place an undue financial burden on the School Town of Munster.

 

A grant of enrollment shall extend for no more than one (1) school year and an application must be filled out for consideration each year thereafter and shall be considered in light of circumstances existing at the time of application. A grant for one (1) year establishes no precedent for the succeeding year(s).
