Mission, Belief, and Goal Statements

MISSION STATEMENT:
In partnership with family and community, our educational program at Elliott Elementary School is clearly driven by addressing the individual needs and talents of each student.  All Elliott students are challenged with a strong, equitable, standards-based curriculum.  Diverse experiences are provided to produce resourceful, productive citizens.  It is our duty to instill in children a lifelong quest for excellence, knowledge, and understanding to prepare them for the future in a local and global community.  Together, through modeling and ongoing support, we will continue to provide a safe, nurturing environment conducive to maintaining high standards.

BELIEFS:
We, at Ernest R. Elliott Elementary School, believe:

  • Everyone can learn.
  • Learning is a lifelong process for children, educators, parents, and the community at large.
  • It is the responsibility of the staff to base teaching and learning on current, valid research.
  • The learning environment must be flexible and responsive to the individual learning needs of the students.
  • Teaching styles should be developmentally appropriate.
  • Assessment should be ongoing and diagnostic for the purpose of moving children forward.
  • Children should have opportunities to develop and apply life skills across the curriculum.
  • School staff should model acceptance and appreciation of cultural diversity.
  • The school curriculum should challenge and empower students and staff.
  • Students should take full responsibility for their actions and pride in their work.
  • It is our duty to instill in students a lifelong quest for excellence, knowledge, and understanding, and that students should learn skills to achieve.
  • Students are unique and important, and through a partnership between home and school we should work together to develop responsible, resourceful, productive citizens.
  • Students should be technologically literate.
  • Parents play a key role in the learning process.
  • Students deserve a safe, nurturing environment conducive to learning.


GOALS:

    Our first goal, in accordance with Indiana State Mathematics Standards, all students K-5 will be able to:
    • Analyze a mathematical problem,
    • Select an appropriate process,
    • Apply strategies to solve the problem, and
    • Justify the answer.


    Our second goal, in accordance with Indiana State Language Arts Standards, all students Kñ5 will write and speak in a variety of contexts using appropriate:

    • Sentence structure
    • Grammar
    • Punctuation
    • Capitalization
    • Spelling
