Testing Schedule Thursday, June 14
11:30 a.m.--3:30 p.m.
2007 Grade 9-10 Honors Reading List Summer Reading Policy 2007 Purpose: The summer reading program at Munster High School is an attempt by the teachers of English to see that their students have a broader background in reading and a chance to read for enjoyment. General Requirements: All students will read three (3) books for the summer reading from specific lists assigned. See the fourth (4th) book option explained below. There will be four assigned summer testing dates and one testing date set by each classroom teacher in the first two weeks of school. Students are not required to test during the summer; tests may be taken on any of the five dates but must be completed by the classroom teacher’s assigned date. The students will be given reading comprehension tests which will count for twenty-five (25) percent of their grade for the first six weeks’ grading period. Four Lists of Books: One list identifies the books from which ninth and tenth graders can select. Another list identifies the books from which eleventh and twelfth graders can select. The third list is identified as an Honors 9th and 10th grade list for ninth and tenth grade Honors students. The fourth list is identified as an Honors 11th and 12th grade list for eleventh and twelfth grade Honors students. However, all ninth and tenth graders may also read from the Honors 9th and 10th grade list, and all eleventh and twelfth graders may also read from the Honors 11th and 12th grade list. Honors students may choose only from the Honors list. OPTIONAL fourth book: An optional fourth book is subject to the following criteria: a.) If a student scores at 60% or above on each of the first three tests, he or she has the choice whether to use the fourth book score to replace one of the first three. b.) If a student scores below 60% on any of the first three tests, he or she MUST us the fourth book score to replace one of the first three. Please note: The fourth test may only be taken with the classroom teacher at the beginning of the school year. It MAY NOT be taken during the summer testing. Specific Rules:
3. If a student who has not attended Munster schools moves into the district between July 2 and August 1, the student is responsible for one (1) book. The guidance department provides the necessary information about summer reading to all new students. 4. Expelled students remain responsible for three (3) books for the grade level at which they return to school. 5. If students have failed a course in which summer reading tests counted and they are repeating the same course, they may but do not have to read the books for the course again. 6. If a student takes a test in another student’s name, using another student’s ID number, both students will receive a zero (0%) for that test. 7. Seniors who do NOT have literature or composition first semester must take the three (3) tests in the summer or sign up to test during the assigned times early in the first semester. 8. Students who do not complete tests by the assigned times early in the first semester will be given a grade of zero (0%) for those tests. Summer reading tests are currently being given in N101. From the main entrance of the school, turn right and walk toward the north building. The lab is located on the right side of the hallway.
